The Power Of The Knob Gag

University of Calgary student, Hayley Wade, has just triumphed in a campaign to be elected Vice President of the student's union. Her campaign consisted almost exclusively of hanging this poster above male urinals around the campus.

A similar case was reported here this week too, along with po-faced condemnation from the usual suspects.

I'd make some comment about this being an example of shiny attention-grabbing campaigns being more noticeable in modern electoral circles; how political machines have used such ploys to gain office while hiding their daft policies well out of view; which is why elections merely give us the same tired parties based on image and spin; and that if Hayley has learned that same lesson, she will go a long way.

But it's Friday so I'll simply observe that this proves that the knob gag is still in fashion. Always has been, and always will be.

(But don't tell Ben Elton in case he's tempted to tour again)

"Jackie Sadek would make a great union president" went the poster - to which some wag appeanded "...very happy."

Ms Sadek did of course win!

That's a great poster. The first poster was rubbish because she did not have a great rack at all.

Oh ,for heavens sake Dick, did you have to mention that tormented ,humourless
witless Laaahnndon folk favourite,Ben Elton
His shows are worse than CAMRA sampling Fests or Green Party regional
conferences even worse than a Norman Wisdom fan meeting in
Wetherspoons.
Talking about misery,as I arrived back at Manchester Airport last Tuesday
I got the distinct impression the Black Death had made a comeback.

Could be worse, Milton Keynes on a monday night.

She could have least punctuated, properly.  It should have been, "Great dick, bro." Sorry, I can't vote for anyone who is unable to punctuate. I just can't.  What does that say about me?  Good thing I'm already married, I suppose.

Many noticed that. ;)

Sure, that would have been better, but I expect she was thinking of her future career (we hope). ;)

I wonder what would have happened if a male student running for council ran a similar ad citing female body parts and hung it inside the ladies' restroom inside the stalls.

Two things would happen.  The first, he would be kicked out of school and arrested.  The second, he would be very popular in prison.

Here, I thought of one, for her male counterpart running for the same position. He prints these up and places them inside the ladies' room stalls, something like "You C*nt Go Wrong If You Vote For Me".

The knob gag is a great response for pricking (oops, pardon) a bubble of pomposity. Only a fart joke can beat it.
